So this is all new to me. Wait… My name is Greg. Anyways, this is day one of deciding that I’m going to make a Youtube channel and webpage with the goal of sharing my knowledge and experience with the world in hopes of helping others improve their careers, skill sets, knowledge, and lives.
I’m a heavy duty truck mechanic with around twenty years of experience at this point in my life. While I am proficient at writing and reading, I personally don’t enjoy reading paragraph after paragraph when I’m looking for information or trying to learn something new. Like the stereotypical mechanic, I prefer not to read the instructions. Often, if I do read the instructions, I do it my own way anyways. So, in an effort to express myself quickly and efficiently, I think you’ll see a lot of bullet points and short paragraphs in my posts. I want this to be easy to consume.
So this is me and my home life:
- Protestant Christian – thankful and happy member of a non-denominational Baptistic church
- Married to Krissy for 14 years
- Six kids: Eliza (9), Rose (7), Ivy (6), Hazel (4), Simon (2), and another of an unknown gender on the way
- Lived in Ohio all of my life
- Still carry a flip phone
- Started my own shop three weeks before my oldest was born
- We are not the typical American family
- We are quite self sufficient
- Our last two kids were homebirths and Krissy is starting a professional Duala business (think midwife-ish)
- We homeschool.
Here is why you should listen to what I have to say:
- I’ve got a great life and I enjoy it. I wouldn’t want to change any of it.
- I’ve got a lot of experience and I’ve been paid to do a lot of things that most mechanics and shops never experience.
- I’m not an idiot and I still have all of my fingers.
- I’ve got a lot of kids. My wife has been a stay-at-home mom for eight years now. I’ve got five vehicles tagged and insured for myself – 66 Fairlane, 72 F250, 79 GMC 4×4, 94 Suburban, 99 Ranger. My career is paying for this lifestyle.
- My shop is also employing my brother (and partner) and paying for his family’s lifestyle (Stay-at-home mom, four daughters, homeschool)
- We have one employee who seems to love his job and is grateful for it – as we are also grateful to have him.
- I tend to think outside of the box. I can’t think for you but I can help you look at things from a different perspective.
- I want to help others be successful. I want to help others reach the point in life that I’m at right now.
Here’s why I’m doing this:
- I love building things. I love projects. I know few people personally that have entered into as many different hobbies and projects as me and my wife.
- I want to help others with info that would have helped me.
- I want to help others with info that I regularly find my customers do not know but would benefit from.
- I have no retirement and do not plan on retiring – but wisdom says I need to start investing in something that will provide some passive income. I hope to create value here that some people find worthwhile enough to compensate me for it.
- I want to create a library of knowledge that Simon, my two year old son, can watch and learn from as he grows up. He doesn’t have to be a mechanic but I’d be happy to hand the business to him if I were to feel that he could handle it. Even if he doesn’t want to be a mechanic, I will expect him to learn the basics of the skill. It’s one of the most valuable things I possess and can give to him.
